Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment is performed on an infected tooth where the pulp inside the tooth has become infected due to an injury or another cavity, or on a tooth that won’t stop hurting and has had a filling.
Root canal treatment is a multi step process during which the damaged area of the tooth will be removed, and the canals cleaned and disinfected before they are sealed.
A permanent crown or other cover is recommended and is fitted at a later stage.
If the tooth is infected and a root canal treatment is required then immediate treatment is needed to make sure the infection is removed as quickly as possible. If the treatment is delayed it could cause the spread of the infection to other teeth, meaning more pain and potential loss of that tooth and surrounding teeth.
Do I need a Root Canal?
Dentists have many tools in their toolkit. If you’re experiencing any of the following, it is best to book in for a consult:
- A toothache that lasts longer than 10 minutes & keeps you awake at night
- Random pain in your tooth
- A tender bite
- Your teeth are sensitive to hot or cold temperatures
This can happen from the following reasons: infection, decay, deep fillings, trauma or fractures.
Root canal treatment is one of the options that can help you chew normally again without pain, improve appearance and sensitivity, and help maintain the health of surrounding teeth.
